The entry point to the network and the cheapest option. You travel upright in a shared compartment. On many trains a private compartment for up to three people can be booked at a flat rate, which makes the seat car a reasonable option for groups travelling on a budget.

A proper berth with blanket, pillow and sheets. Breakfast included. Compartments can be shared with other passengers or booked exclusively for your group at a flat rate. A privately booked couchette compartment is the most cost-effective way for families or small groups to travel with genuine privacy. Women-only compartments are available on request on most routes.

The most distinctive product in the Nightjet fleet. The Mini Cabin is a fully private pod designed for solo travellers. Fully enclosed with its own locker and NFC card locking, it offers the privacy of a sleeping car at a price closer to a couchette. Two Mini Cabins on the same level can be connected via a sliding door for couples travelling together. Available only on new generation trains. A private compartment for one to three people. Proper bed, washbasin, à la carte breakfast, welcome drink, evening snack, and a wake-up service on request. Two tiers are available: the standard compartment includes a washbasin with shared corridor facilities; the Plus compartment adds a private shower, toilet and washbasin within the compartment itself. When booking, look for "Plus" or "Comfort Plus" in the compartment designation. Adjacent compartments on most trains share a connecting door and can be opened to create a larger private space for groups.

Nightjet has no restaurant car. Food and drinks are brought to your compartment by the train team and can also be purchased throughout the journey. Breakfast is included for couchette and sleeping car passengers. Sleeping car passengers choose from an à la carte menu the evening before. Additional drinks and snacks can be purchased from the train team throughout the journey.

All compartments are air conditioned with individual temperature control. A wake-up service is available in the sleeping car on request. Towels and toiletries are provided in sleeping car compartments. Wi-Fi is not available on older generation trains but is available free of charge on new generation Nightjets.

Nightjet departs from main city centre stations, typically between 20:00 and 23:00. There is no check-in process. Arrive at least twenty minutes before departure, find your carriage number on your ticket, and walk to your berth. The train team will come to you.

Tickets open up to 180 days before departure. ÖBB's Sparschiene promotional fares are the lowest available and are released in batches. They sell out. Book as early as possible. Weekday departures typically have more Sparschiene availability than Friday and Sunday evenings. Fares rise as departure approaches and availability fills.

The seat car works for shorter routes. For anything over six hours, a couchette is worth the additional cost. The sleeping car makes sense when privacy matters and the route is long enough to justify it. On new generation trains the Mini Cabin gives solo travellers a private space at a price between couchette and sleeping car.

Interrail and Eurail pass holders travel on Nightjet by paying a reservation fee rather than the full fare. The fee varies by class and is lower than the point-to-point ticket price.
